Four and twenty years ago I staged a most reluctant self-expatriation from a world whose perfection I’ve yet to see matched. Namely, my momma’s belly. It’s a feat anyone can claim amongst their list of accolades.
Shortly thereafter, I picked up one too many comic books and collected one too many action figures. And got it in my head that I was no less capable of saving the world. To my disappointment however, I’ve had no freak accidents that’ve left me endowed with nifty powers that would aid me in this endeavor. And my DNA is most average, so I cannot bank on any razzle dazzle coming out of that. If I am to save the world, or at least leave my mark on it, I’ll have to do it using means that anyone is capable of.
Currently, that means running marathons and raising money for charity. Now you’re probably thinking, whoa whoa WHOA there, Christine. You think anyone is capable of running marathons?! Frankly, yes. If I can do it, anyone can. When I first started running, the furthest distance I had run was two blocks (and that was after an ice cream truck). What's more, I was a binge eater. Fast forward four years, and I’ve completed the 2007 Boston Marathon, the 2008 London Marathon, 2009 Luxor Marathon, and the 2010 Antarctica Marathon. I aim to complete three more. I hope to run a marathon on each continent.
My desire is to serve as an inspiration to the every day runner. To promote health and fitness. And to give back through fundraising efforts along the way.
